Caustic Soda Imports in H1 2019

Growth in caustic soda imports in the first half of 2019.

According to statistics, imports of caustic soda into the domestic market grew by around 9% in the first half of 2019. Most of this increase came from solid caustic soda, while imports of liquid caustic increased only marginally.

In weight terms, 12.7 thousand tonnes of caustic were imported, compared to around 11.7 thousand tonnes purchased in the same period of 2018.

Over this period, supplies of liquid caustic soda fell to around 0.72 thousand tonnes, 3% lower than the previous year.

At the same time, Russian producers increased output of solid caustic soda by only 1%, amounting to 743.2 thousand tonnes.

As a result, overall consumption of solid caustic soda by domestic enterprises grew by around 10% in the first half of 2019.
