SIBUR Modernized Glycol Production

The SIBUR holding company completed a modernization of its production processes at its facilities in the Central region, reducing ethylene consumption in the manufacture of the final product.

During the production optimization, new compressor units and tank equipment were commissioned. The entire process was carried out without a full shutdown of the overall production process, instead being done during scheduled maintenance. As a result of the work performed, consumption per unit of output was significantly reduced.

As of today (March 2018), production capacity for Ethylene glycol is 300,000 t/year, and for Ethylene oxide it is 130,000 t/year.

Ethylene oxide is used in the manufacture of chemical products used in the production of surfactants, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, as well as solvents, adhesives, and sealants.

Glycols are used mainly in the production of technical fluids — such as brake fluids, various heat-transfer fluids, coolants, etc. They are also used in the manufacture of plastics, polyesters, and synthetic fibers, and in the production of Corrosion inhibitors and detergents.
