Product packaging

Product packaging

All transported goods must have proper packaging (container), the type of which depends on:

  • The type of the goods themselves (cargo may have no packaging at all — for example, when sold in bulk); this also includes special characteristics of the cargo — food product, dangerous and so on;
  • The type of transport by which the cargo will be transported;
  • Special requirements of the carrier company or the insurance company;
  • The size of the product;
  • The countries through which the goods will be transported;
  • Labelling requirements.

Product packaging

When transporting by rail, rigid packaging is mandatory for fragile cargo. Labelling is also mandatory.

In container transportation the cargo must not shift — it needs to be packed accordingly.
Air transport does not require special packaging.

When transporting by road or rail across the territory of other countries, the goods need to be packed in approximately the same way as within Russia. For example, across the territory of China it is generally forbidden to transport dangerous goods by rail.

For international sea shipment, temperature fluctuations and increased humidity in the tropics must be taken into account.

Each package must clearly indicate the name of the consignee and the destination address, and the batch number. Special markings are required for special cargo — dangerous, fragile, etc.

When transporting goods to the European Union, it must be taken into account that wooden pallets are subject to separate inspection — a phytosanitary certificate confirming phytosanitary treatment is required.
