The use of ammonium bifluoride

AMMONIUM BIFLUORIDE (acid ammonium fluoride) 98%

Applications:

for etching and engraving glass;
for chemical frosting (matting) of glass;
for cleaning rust from boilers and pipes;
as a substitute for Hydrofluoric Acid;

AMMONIUM BIFLUORIDE successfully replaces the traditional but hazardous and aggressive material — Hydrofluoric Acid, which is highly corrosive, damages many materials, causes severe burns, and releases fumes harmful to breathe. Using Ammonium Bifluoride instead of Hydrofluoric Acid is safer to use, store and transport, less harmful, and also cuts your costs by 10–15%.

For glaziers:

A frosted pattern on glass can be achieved chemically. To do this, the glass is coated with a thin layer of wax. A pre-prepared pattern is placed on the reverse side of the glass, and the necessary areas are scratched into the wax against the light using the blunt end of a needle. Modelling clay is then used to turn the glass into a shallow tray, into which etching solutions based on Ammonium Bifluoride are poured.
Using Ammonium Bifluoride instead of Hydrofluoric Acid noticeably simplifies glass processing, makes it safer and less harmful, and also cuts your costs by 10–15%.

For oil industry professionals:

In oil extraction, acid treatment of the well’s bottomhole zone is successfully used to restore and improve its filtration properties, dissolve and loosen deposits in the well, and increase the permeability of the reservoir’s bottomhole zone — and therefore the well’s flow rate.
Technical-grade Hydrofluoric Acid is usually used to prepare the acid mixture. Replacing it with Ammonium Bifluoride yields savings of 10–15%. By comparison, if a working acid mixture used Hydrofluoric Acid (45%), 1.55 times more of it would be required than when using dry Ammonium Bifluoride.
