Polymer emulsifier for explosives

Description of characteristics

Polymer emulsifier for water-emulsion explosives is a specialized surfactant component that forms and stabilizes the fine dispersed structure of the "water in fuel phase" system. It maintains a narrow droplet distribution, reduces coalescence and separation during transportation, pumping and storage, and helps maintain the set viscosity over a wide temperature range. The material is compatible with standard formulation bases, does not create excess foam, does not impair pumpability, and works at moderate dosages while retaining its effectiveness throughout the product's shelf life. Supplied in batches with a quality certificate and control of key parameters, which simplifies scaling and series production.

Emulsifier production method

The emulsifier is obtained through controlled synthesis of polymer fragments with a set ratio of hydrophilic and lipophilic units. At the manufacturing stage, molecular weight and chain architecture are adjusted to achieve the required interfacial action and stability in the given medium. After synthesis, the material is purified from by-products, standardized on key parameters, filtered and packaged into sealed containers. Each batch is confirmed by laboratory tests for compatibility with the formulation matrix and storage stability. (Without disclosing process parameters and formulas for industrial safety reasons.)

Application:

  • Stabilization of the emulsion structure in series-produced water-emulsion explosives for industrial blasting operations where licenses and regulations permit.
  • Reducing the tendency to separate during storage, transportation and pumping through process lines.
  • Rheology adjustment to ensure pumpability and correct loading.
  • Maintaining dispersion and resistance to temperature fluctuations within set limits.
  • Compatibility with standard formulation matrices (per manufacturer’s TU) and simplification of batch incoming inspection.

Precautions:

  • The emulsifier is explosion-safe.
No special precautions are required for storage and transportation.
  • Low toxicity to the human body; classified as a low-hazard substance.
Has a mildly irritating effect on skin and mucous membranes.
  • Do not extinguish with water in case of fire.
  • When filling containers, the fill level should not exceed 90%.
  • The fluid state of water-emulsion matrices, their high density and negative oxygen balance make the emulsion matrix relatively safe during transportation to application sites.
The more negative the oxygen balance of the matrix, the safer it is.
  • With prolonged heating above 70°C, the emulsifier loses its properties (emulsifying capacity).

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Polymer Emulsifier

How to store the polymer emulsifier in a warehouse?

The polymer emulsifier is stored in sealed factory packaging, in an unheated warehouse without direct sunlight and at a temperature not exceeding the value specified by the supplier. Overheating can impair the product’s properties, so drums are not placed near heat sources or left in the sun. Containers are kept tightly closed, protected from mechanical damage and contamination. For a wholesale batch it is important to preserve labelling, quality certificate and traceability from receipt through to transfer into production.

What safety measures are required when working with the polymer emulsifier?

When working with the polymer emulsifier, protective gloves, goggles, work clothing and ventilation are used, especially during decanting, dosing or prolonged contact with the product. The substance is flammable, so there must be no open flame, sparks or overheated equipment nearby. In case of fire, the extinguishing method must not be chosen arbitrarily: action must follow the safety data sheet and the enterprise’s instructions. Spills are collected mechanically or with a sorbent, preventing personnel from slipping and contamination of work areas.
