Chemistry in Agriculture
Chemical Materials Used in Agriculture Are Divided Into:
- Pesticides — any materials used to destroy pests.
- Fertilizers — chemical materials that help plants grow and feed them.
- Feed additives — components of feed mixtures in animal husbandry.
Pesticides.
There has recently been an environmental breakthrough in this area — “nature-friendly” formulations have been developed and introduced. They are less toxic to animals and break down more easily in the environment, preventing their accumulation.
Pesticides can be divided into:
- Organochlorines — break down slowly in nature and accumulate in the bodies of humans and animals.
- Organophosphates — derivatives of orthophosphoric acid.
- Carbamates, including thiocarbamates and derivatives of carbamic acid.
- Rodenticides — mainly used to control rodents.
- Herbicides — chemical materials for weed control.
- Fungicides — for preventing and eliminating plant diseases.

Ammonia is the basis of the most common mineral fertilizers.
Main fertilizers:
The use of enormous quantities of fertilizers worldwide has a negative impact on the environment. They end up in wastewater, ammonia is released as a gas, and so on.

Feed Additives.
Intended to provide animals with necessary substances, but at the same time they can introduce chemical compounds into their bodies that are harmful to humans.
This category also includes anabolic agents and other growth accelerators.
An example of relatively safe feed additives is food-grade di-ammonium phosphate and feed-grade monoammonium phosphate.
