Sodium hydroxide synonyms - caustic soda, sodium hydrate, sodium alkali, caustic.
Distinguish Natra caustic scaly (in the form of scales) and granular.
Caustic soda (NaOH) is the most common and strongest alkali. It has the appearance of scaly granules of white color without a pronounced odor. Corrosive sodium has excellent hygroscopic properties, easily dissolves in water.
Sodium hydroxide is used in many branches of the national economy.
Caustic is widely used in industry and at home and refers to substances of the 2nd class of danger. Therefore, when working with caustic soda, it is necessary to comply with safety techniques and work in a protective suit, or a rubber apron with a filter respirator or a gas mask.
Upon contact with the body, sodium hydroxide reacts with moisture and causes damage - a chemical burn.
It is necessary to wash the affected area with running water.
If ingested, drink plenty of water.
In case of damage to the mucous membranes and ingestion after treatment, consult a physician.
We offer Caustic Soda Flake and Granulated.

Caustic soda acts as a strong alkali: it sharply raises the pH of the medium, breaks down fatty and organic contamination, participates in acid neutralisation and is used in chemical synthesis. In industry, sodium hydroxide is used in the production of detergents, pulp and paper products, oil refining, water treatment, equipment cleaning and preparation of process solutions. Due to its high causticity, the product requires precise dosing, chemically resistant containers, ventilation and personnel protection.
Whether caustic soda is an alkali or an acid is an important question for safe handling of the reagent. Caustic soda, or sodium hydroxide, is a strong alkali, not an acid. It reacts actively with acids, can cause chemical burns, and releases heat when dissolved in water. Therefore, during storage and use, it is kept separate from acids, certain metals and incompatible substances, and solutions are prepared only according to the enterprise’s regulations, using personal protective equipment.
Caustic soda is sodium hydroxide, while soda ash is sodium carbonate. Briefly, the difference between caustic soda and soda ash is that caustic is a noticeably more corrosive and aggressive reagent, requiring strict safety measures during storage, dosing and solution preparation. Soda ash acts more mildly, but is also an alkaline technical product. Therefore one reagent cannot be substituted for the other without checking the process regulations: the pH, reaction rate, effect on materials and safety requirements all change.
Caustic soda is stored in sealed packaging, because it actively absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide from the air. If storage conditions are not observed, the product can cake, partially change composition on the surface, and become harder to dose. The warehouse must be dry, ventilated, with restricted access and separate placement from acids and incompatible substances. For a wholesale batch it is important to preserve the labelling, quality certificate and packaging integrity until the moment of use.
