Zinc white BTsOM is a finely dispersed white powder based on zinc oxide ZnO, produced under GOST 202-84. When purchasing, it is important to check the mass fraction of zinc compounds calculated as ZnO, the content of lead compounds, metallic zinc, water-soluble substances, residue on sieve, loss on ignition, whiteness and hiding power. The BTsOM designation helps distinguish the product from other grades of zinc white, but the final decision on batch acceptance is made based on the quality certificate.
Zinc white can turn yellow when heated due to the properties of zinc oxide, but on cooling the appearance usually returns to the original white shade, provided the product was not contaminated or overheated in violation of conditions. For production, this needs to be taken into account during drying, processing and storage near heat sources. If the colour change persists after cooling, the batch should be checked against the quality certificate and actual indicators: whiteness, impurities, moisture content and absence of foreign inclusions.
Zinc white BTsOM is stored in closed, unheated warehouse rooms, in undamaged factory packaging, on pallets and protected from moisture. If it gets wet, the powder can clump, become contaminated and distribute worse in a production mixture. For a wholesale batch it is important to preserve labelling, quality certificate, production date and bag traceability. It is not recommended to mix residues from different batches without verification if whiteness, hiding power and dispersion stability are critical to the process.
